Everything you write in nuga stays on your device. Journal entries, saved thoughts, settings, voice transcriptions — none of it is sent anywhere, stored on a server, or accessible to the developer. If you lose your device, we can't recover it for you; we simply don't have it. This is intentional, and we think it's the right way to build a journal.

This page covers the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for nuga. nuga is a personal journaling app built and maintained by a single independent developer as a passion project — not a company, not a service, just a quiet space for your thoughts. What nuga collects
Nothing. Your journal lives on your device and stays there. nuga has no servers, no database, and no way of receiving your content — by design.
Accounts & tracking
Your thoughts belong to you and nobody else.
nuga may ask for a small number of device permissions. Each one is only used for the feature it's tied to, and you can turn any of them off in your device settings at any time.
- Photo Library — used to save Share Studio images to your camera roll when you choose to export them. nuga does not read, browse, or access any existing photos in your library.
- Microphone — used for the optional voice-to-text feature. Audio is processed on your device and is never stored or sent anywhere.
- Speech Recognition — works alongside the microphone to convert your voice into text, entirely on-device.
When you use the microphone in nuga, your voice is transcribed locally on your device using Apple's on-device speech framework. The audio isn't stored, sent to a server, or seen by the developer — only the resulting text appears in your journal. The mic is only active while you're actively recording.
If you have iCloud Backup enabled on your device, Apple may include nuga's data in your personal encrypted backup as part of normal iOS behaviour — this is governed by Apple's own terms, not ours. The developer never sees or receives that data. Because your journal lives on your device, we recommend exporting entries you'd like to keep safe. We're not responsible for data lost through device issues, app removal, or anything else outside our control.
nuga doesn't use advertising networks, analytics platforms, or tracking SDKs. The only third parties involved are:
- Apple — for App Store distribution, on-device system features (storage, speech, iCloud backup), and the standard iOS platform. Their privacy policy governs their side of things.
- Atlassian — our Help Centre runs on Atlassian's Jira Service Management platform. They only receive what you voluntarily type into a support request. Their privacy policy applies to anything you submit there.
There are a few ways to get in touch:
- Help Centre — visit nugajournal.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portals or use the chat widget on this site.
- Email — [email protected]
- Social media — DM us on Instagram or TikTok.
When you reach out, we only receive what you choose to share. We use it to help you and nothing else — no mailing lists, no passing it on, no holding onto it longer than needed.
Sharing a Share Studio image with us is entirely optional. If you send us something to feature, we'll only repost it with your agreement and credit you how you'd like — or keep it anonymous if you prefer. You can ask us to remove anything we've posted at any time.
Because we don't hold your data, there's nothing for us to hand over or delete on our end. You're in full control — you can edit, export, or delete your journal at any time from within the app, or wipe everything by deleting nuga from your device. If you've contacted us directly and want that correspondence removed, just ask.
nuga isn't intended for children under 13. Since we don't collect data from anyone, we can't recover journal content for a child or anyone else — but parents and guardians are welcome to reach out if they have questions.
If anything meaningful changes about how nuga handles data, this page will be updated before it happens and the "Last Updated" date will reflect that. Continuing to use nuga after a change means you're okay with it.
Governance
Terms of Use
Quick Summary
nuga is free, built by one person, and provided as-is. There are no guarantees. Your journal is yours — and so is the responsibility of keeping it safe. By using nuga, you agree to these terms.
drawWHAT NUGA IS (IMPORTANT)
nuga is a personal journaling app — nothing more. It's not a therapy tool, a mental health service, a crisis support resource, or any kind of professional service. The prompts are here to get you writing, not to replace professional advice. If you're going through something serious, please reach out to a qualified professional or emergency services — nuga isn't the right place for that.
ABOUT THE APP
nuga is a personal passion project built and maintained by a single independent developer. It's free, provided as-is, and may change over time. Features may be added, updated, or removed — that's just the nature of a solo project.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
You're responsible for how you use the app, the content you create, and keeping your own device secure. By using nuga you confirm you're at least 13 years old and that your use complies with any applicable laws where you are.
No warranty
nuga is provided "as is." We make no promises that it'll work perfectly, be bug-free, or meet your specific needs. Apps break sometimes — that's life. We'll do our best, but we can't guarantee anything.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the developer isn't liable for any loss or harm that comes from using (or not being able to use) nuga — including lost journal entries, device issues, or anything else. Because your data lives on your device, data loss is a real possibility, and backing things up is your responsibility.
Backups
nuga offers export tools so you can save your entries yourself. We encourage you to use them. If something happens to your device or the app, we have no way to recover your data — so please back up anything you care about.
Changes & availability
nuga is a hobby project and may change, pause, or stop at any time. We reserve the right to update, modify, or discontinue the app — or any part of it — without notice and without obligation. We're not promising to be here forever, but we'd like to be.
Intellectual property
The nuga name, logo, design, prompts, and all associated creative assets belong to the developer. Your journal entries belong to you. If you share something with us for "Get Featured," you're giving us permission to repost it — and you can withdraw that permission at any time.
Acceptable use
Please use nuga as it's intended — as a personal journal. Don't try to reverse-engineer it, misuse it, or do anything with it that you wouldn't be comfortable explaining. You're responsible for what you write; we have no visibility into your entries and can't moderate them.
External links
nuga may link to external websites or services like the Help Centre. Once you leave the app, those destinations have their own terms and privacy policies that apply. We're not responsible for what happens on third-party sites.
App Store
Downloading and using nuga is also subject to Apple's App Store Terms of Service. Apple isn't a party to these terms and has no support obligations for the app — that's on us. If there's a conflict between these terms and Apple's, Apple's terms govern your relationship with Apple, and these terms govern your relationship with the developer.
Severability
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. These terms (along with the Privacy Policy above) represent the full agreement between you and the developer regarding nuga.
Updates to these terms
These terms may change from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continuing to use nuga after a change means you accept the updated terms.
